According to Dr BOYD “Homoeopathy is a method of therapeutic which assumes that any deviation from the fundamental means within reversible limit can be restored to normal by means of stimuli usually applied in the form of drugs, only sub physiological doses are necessary, because of hypersensitivity in disease and whose action in drugs directed towards normal by virtue of altered receptivity to tissue to stimuli in disease.
Actually Hahnemann invented Homoeopathy while he was translating Cullen’s materia medica from English to German. He was astonished by the remark of the author that cinchona bark cured malaria because of its bitterness and tonic effect. But Hahnemann was not at all satisfied with this explanation . He was dissatisfied with his system of treatment of that time ie allopathy.
So he decided to make an experiment in cinchona bark. To discover its true mode of action, he himself ingested 4 drams of cinchona juice twice daily for a few days. To his great astonishment, he very soon developed symptoms very similar to ague or malarial fever. The unexpected result occurred to him that Cinchona bark could cure malaria because it has the power to produce a similar state in a healthy human being. To test this idea further, he did similar experiments with various substances on himself and others. In 1796, after 6 years of Dr. Hahnemann's first experiment, he published an article in Hufeland's Journal volume-II, parts 3 & 4, pages 391-439 & 465-561. "An essay on a new principle for ascertaining the curative powers of drugs & some examinations of the previous principle."
He thus put forward his new doctrine of Similia Similibus Curantur and this is the basic principle of homoeopathy. The cure of disease in homoeopathy is rapid gentle and permanent. And this is based on the law nature i.e. “ A weaker dynamic affection is permanently extinguished in the living organism by a stronger one, if the latter (whilst differing in kind) is very similar to the former in its manifestation”top
