1 Jaundice-yellow discoloration of skin, sclera, mucous membranes and other tissues due to excess of bilirubin in the blood. The normal level is 0.5-1.0mg/dl. Clinically jaundice is manifest when serum bilirubin rises above 3mg/dl. The term latent jaundice is used when the level is between 1-2mg/dl. Examination in bright daylight is absolutely essential to detect mild jaundice.
